Episode #31 – Zach Ducheneaux

 January 26, 2022

Did you know that farmers receive 8 to 14 cents on the food dollar? It’s no wonder that 96% of our farmers and ranchers make more than half of their income outside of the farm.

This week, Seleyn DeYarus, Founder and Executive Director of Regenerative Rising, hosts her first episode of the Regenerative Rising Podcast – Elevating Stories, Activating Change, since returning from her sabbatical. Joining her in this episode is Zachary Ducheneaux, the first Native American Administrator of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) with the USDA. Of note, Zach was the former Executive Director of the Intertribal Agriculture Council, which serves 80,000 producers in Indian Country.

Join Seleyn and Administrator Ducheneaux as they explore the state of agriculture and food security in the USA. They discuss the challenges and opportunities in animal husbandry and how this opens up new possibilities in the US meat industry. Additionally, Seleyn and Zach dive into the role of money in agriculture, including the state of off-farm income, misconceptions around farmers, patient capital and loan programs that benefit new producers and open a new path for innovation in USA agriculture. Tune in to learn about herd dynamics, the importance of early adopters in the regenerative movement, interconnectedness as a touchstone to collaboration and the principle of ‘lifemanship’.
