Episode #37 – Katlin Smith

 October 13, 2022

On this episode of the Regenerative Rising Podcast – Elevating Stories, Activating Change, host Nisha Mary Poulose, the newly appointed Executive Director of Regenerative Rising, speaks with Katlin Smith, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Simple Mills, about nutrient rich foods, its link to regenerative farming and what it takes for a business to keep their ingredients fresh and natural.

Katlin recalls her quest for healthy and natural food as a young working professional dealing with stress and low energy, and the shocking amount of processed ingredients she realized exists in packaged food brands found easily in supermarkets. Conceived from this journey, Simple Mills has grown from a healthy food option for people, to a planet-conscious business, proving that creativity and simplicity are the key to keeping chemicals out of our food.

The conversation delves into the role of farming and soil health in human wellness and the challenge of sourcing natural products in an industry rife with hidden ingredients. It is evident from this journey that good food can only come out of regenerative agricultural systems and that cultivating close relationships with farms and farmers, whether in North America or Asia, is essential in keeping the supply chain clean.

This podcast explores a young woman’s road to health and what it takes to run a conscious business. Human well being is related to that of the planet, and as Katlin asserts, leaders within the food industry have the agency to make a powerful positive change in how we engage with our planet.
