Colleen Kavanagh

 June 1, 2019

Colleen has dedicated her life to improving nutrition quality in food to provide the foundational support people and communities need to exercise self-determination and
achieve their goals and dreams.

She spent the first twenty years of her career working to improve child nutrition programs as a legislative assistant for Congress (Cong. George Miller, D-CA) and Deputy Director of California Food Policy Advocates. She later started her own nonprofit, A Better Course, to focus on institutional injustices that prevent children from receiving healthy food at school and in the food stamp program (SNAP).

Seeking a more effective leverage point to improve nutrition from soil to table, Colleen turned to the for profit sector. She launched ZEGO LLC in 2013, making superfood-based breakfast and snack products accessible to everyone regardless of special diet needs and tested for glyphosate and over 400 chemicals, heavy metals, allergens and gluten. ZEGO has pioneered purity transparency in food, linking each product’s packaging QR code (“T-CODE”) to its lab test results.

ZEGO was certified as a B Corp in 2017 and was named “Best in the World” for its positive community impact. In 2019, ZEGO was certified as a Women Owned (WBENC).

Colleen is originally from Memphis, TN and is raising three children and a dog with her husband Erik Puknys in San Francisco.
