Reem Hassani is Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer of Numi Organic Tea. She started Numi with her brother, Ahmed Rahim, in Oakland, California in 1999. A labor of love, the company began with the mission to inspire well-being of mind, body, and spirit through the simple art of tea. Over twenty years later, Numi continues to create lasting positive impact and empower thousands of people worldwide through fair wages, access to education, and clean water.

At Numi, Reem oversees brand identity, including all packaging design, brand voice and experience. An artist by trade (including a Diploma d’Arte from Lorenzo de Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy and an M.F.A. in Arts & Consciousness Studies from JFK University), Reem’s original artwork has been a huge source of inspiration for Numi’s brand vision. Along with her brother, Reem is a co-creator and contributor to the Numi Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to nurture and empower communities to thrive. The Foundation focuses on providing arts and gardening curriculum to low-income elementary school students in California, clean drinking water and sanitation to tea farming communities around the world, and summer
school to underserved orphans and war victims in Iraq.

In 2018, Reem received gold medal recognition for Women in Business and the Professions World Awards’ Female Executive of the Year. In 2019, she was inducted into the Specialty Food Association’s Hall of Fame, and was an honored as one of Progressive Grocer’s Top Women in Business.

With Reem leading the charge for a more sustainable future in packaging innovation, Numi’s compostable, plant-based tea wrapper was a finalist for the 2020 Expo West NEXTY Awards in the Best Environmentally Responsible Packaging category. Also in 2020, she received the Climate Collaborative’s award for Outstanding Influencer of the year, and was honored with the prestigious NEXTY Gold Award, which recognizes the pinnacle of excellence in the natural products industry.

Reem continues to create her own artwork in her studio in Petaluma, California, and is proud to maintain a core goal of service to those focused on creating positive impact on and change for our global communi’tea.
